I have been encountering his name for the past few weeks now, most on the random reads, and considering this multiple award winning author, I would like to experience one or some of his best works.  Unfortunately, only one of his books is listed in the WWE database which is also available at my library: The boy who would live forever. Considering this is Book 5 of the Gateway series, I believe it would not make sense to start with this one.  If anybody has a recommendation, here are the others I have available:

• The Far Shore of Time
• The Last Theorem /with Arthur C. Clarke
• Mining the Sort
• The Other End of Time
• Platinum Pohl: Collected Best Stories
• The Siege of Eternity
• The Voices of Heaven
• The World at the End of Time

As per Wiki, the Eschaton Trilogy seems complete.

I've read four books in the Heechee Saga and liked them all.  Gateway is my favorite Pohl book so far.  I've got The Boy Who Would Live Forever in my reading stack, to finish out the series, along with:

• The Years of the City
• Man Plus
  
• Starfarers
• Oh, Pioneer!

It's funny, I did not realize I had so many of his books on hand!  I don't know anything about the other books on your available list but I'd go with Platinum Pohl to get a feel for his style.  You can try a few shorts and if you don't like it you can bail.  His short fiction is pretty highly regarded.

It's also pretty funny that on his blog you linked, the three books illustrated are in my list.  Now, what are the probabilities of that?
