This novel is very much a mixed bag. The worldbuilding and prose are vivid and descriptive, but I found the religious system not believable. And it's very much a YA novel, in the sense that one of the main characters is a 16-year-old who constantly behaves with wilful stupidity, and a major plot point is jealousy between her and her 18-year-old sister over the same man. I finally quit after 218 of 372 pages (about 60%) because I just couldn't take the stupidity any more.
