Cancel culture tells us we should not read H. P. Lovecraft. A quick review of most biographies or internet serches will quickly reveal Lovecraft a racist. Not sure this is true, but it's a smear put forward on many Pulp authors and popular ones tend be the largest targets. Most people making these claims are void of critiqueing the virtuosity of most authors of the last thirty years. Supposedley many authors up till a certain period were bad people and those of a later time all turned good. History will tell if the authors of today, behavior and thought, will fare well in future judgements.

My point is, don't not let others put you off from reading Lovecraft. Horror is not my typical genre, but most of this collection are delightful. The slow developing imcrease of tension and terror keep one glued to the stories.

Consider this a Cthulu Mythos pimer. Four of these stories The Call of Cthulhu, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Shadow Out of Time are considered core Mythos.

Fpr my part, I will be reading more Lovecraft.
