Dick explores the realms of drugs, god-worship and mind expansion in this Hugo-nominated work. The story is set in Communist Vietnam of the near future, where people are controlled by TV. An underground cell of revolutionaries has recruited the protagonist to find out the truth about the Supreme Leader which the protagonist does through mind-altering (or consciouness-correcting) drugs.
Still holds up today as an exploration of how God is created in Man's image, and how it changes the nature of the people and society..
