Six of the ten tales in this Shirley Jackson Award-winning collection of dark tales (my audio copy also included the short story "Hour of the Cyclops") drew award consideration themselves, having been nominated for International Horror Guild Awards, Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards, and/or Shirley Jackson Awards. Most of the stories are in a Lovecraftian mode, with great and terrible cosmic forces peeking into on our little corner of reality with dark men doing their bidding. Signifcantly creepy and atmospheric, these stories rely more on ambiance and tone rather than guts and gore but also aren't afraid to spill some blood. Reccommended for if you enjoy dark, weird fiction.
