The last few Expanse novels have been fine, but I have been losing interest slowly as the plot follows lines that haven't been exciting to me. The Laconian Empire thread has never sparked much interest from me, and the "dark creatures in the shadows" through-line was meh. This book was very much in that vein for much of it, and it was... fine. It was fine.
And then, Holden did something dumb that brought back a favorite character, and I woke up to what seemed to me a much better book, but was in reality just something that finally really had my attention. Way to finish strong.
