I am not giving a fawning review over this book because I do not feel it deserves it. I do not read and review something as good just because it is supposed to be good. I need a book to be readable and relatable. In my eyes, this book did not excel. For one, Most of the time I didn't know what was going on. It was written like you were supposed to know about the plot without it being explained. If I had not read the synopsis prior to reading the book then I am not sure I would have realized right away that this was about an alien visitation. It could have been easily about a biowarfare, chemical or nuclear accident. Next, the characters just were not well fleshed out. I had difficulty in remembering different characters from one page to the next.
Some people really liked this novel. I just was not one of them. It wasn't terrible. It just didn't warrant 4 or 5 stars.
