My first Solomon book but certainly not my last. For such a small book there is so much to unpack.

In part inspired by the Drexciya album(s), Deep Sea Dweller, and clipping.'s song The Deep, this novella is a call and response piece of literature. Solomon takes visual and fantastical concepts from the music and lines it with anguish, history, forgetting, oral storytelling, and self-discovery.

I'm already a fan of books set underwater, you have to be a great writer to pull that off, but this book is about so much more than mythical creatures and the deep sea, it is about identity and what shapes it.

Quick, easy to read in one afternoon, but impossible to discuss in one conversation. Really, really enjoyed.
