Books like this is what makes speculative fiction so fascinating. It can be anything, including this tale of a jaded, maybe immortal popultauon of adolescents in a state of arrested development. But one of these "Jangs" is moving to a new understanding of what it means to be human. Will she/he finish the journey. Add in the ability to freely change bodies and genders, free love, and advanced technology, this must have been quite a vision when it was released in 1976.
