The writing style is engaging and it starts out promising, but it quickly gets repetitive - just the same inevitable scares in different locations. And then, like some of its main characters, the plot ends in an explicable face-plant that filled me with mild regret for having stuck it out. I hung in there hoping it was going to move away from or present some twist on its overt theme of "imperfect mothers ruin everything" but I'm struggling to find any nuance there. Not sure I'd recommend it. That being said, I'm looking forward to the movie, which based just on the trailer looks like it's going to be more fun than the book.
