This was the first Robin Hobb novel I read and also one of the first fantasy books that I read. From the start I really enjoyed it. This is challenging to read as the chapters are long with lots of text, there is lots of detail and it move at a slow pace. You can see there is no hurry as the story spans three books. Each chapter starts with small snippets of information about the kingdom the story is set it, slowly adding more information to the world we are entering whilst the main story is told in depth through each chapter. I really enjoyed this way that the novel was structured and it continues in the second book. Another of my favourites is the map, this adds to it.

The story itself is beautifully written but also a challenge to read. something to really get your teeth into, which I love.

I enjoyed it from start to finish and have now read the second book and am looking forward to the third.
