If you enjoy novels about the Sidhe, the Irish version of Elves or Fairies, look no further than this first book in the Merry Gentry series,an enjyable fast paced exciting romp

Merry is the unexpected child(it had been 70 years since a sidhe was last born) of a political match between the niece of the king of the Seelie or Light Court, and the brother of the queen of the Dark,Unseelie court,Andais.

Merry was despised by both courts. The Seelie court had little respect for those not full pure bred sidhe, and Merry's maternal gran is a brownie, her great grandfather a human.Besides she is very short, barely 5 feet tall, with Unseelie blood red hair, and a curvy body, far removed from the elegant tall, willowy ideal

On the other hand Queen Andais despises her because she has no magc powers, and has been born mortal,a shortlived weakling in her eyes. Also the magical powers that appear at puberty to the fae seem to have bypassed MerryAndais spoiled son Cell, will brook no possible rivals to the throne, and after the murder of her protective father sets his followers to challenge Merry to duels ,hoping for her death.Eventually life is so difficult she runs away and hides among humans for over 3 years.

Contact with a magical ointment brings on strong powers at last, and when she is outed as the missing princess to the world, she has little choice but to return to the court.Andais has a proposition for her that will possibly bring Merry great power - if the almost insane psychopathic Cell doesnt kill her first

Full of wonderful descriptions of the dangerous Unseelie court, fabulous characters who were once worshipped as gods,a plot brimming with danger, magic, horror, humour, sex, mysteries to be soved, this is a fun ''guilty pleasure''read. Not one for your grandma perhaps but a fun excitng adventure in a scintillating new world.
