Killer possibly genetically modified plants, Green comet dust that blinds people and animals, and plagues. There is so much to love about Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham.

This novel was written in 1951 but holds up surprisingly well through the test of time. The lack of cell phones and GPS are the only glaringly obvious omission and this was not that big of a deal. The complete loss of power right at the beginning of the novel helped this novel "age well" because there was no need to discuss technology which is one aspect that easily dates novels.

I loved, loved, loved this novel. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. This is a gentle apocalypse, there is no real violence, except the Triffids. There is almost no human on human violence. This is a classic everyone should read.
