I don't get what all the fuss is about

This is an okay book, but in my opinion, nothing in it is great. It should be about 150 pages shorter because it is slow and repetitive. Since there's little exposition, explanation or development, I wonder what purpose all those words were supposed to have served. Much has been made about the gender issues, but I was disappointed because Leckie does not do anything with them. There's no theorizing, analysis, or exploration of the implications of such a society. I will say that the last third of the book is stronger, and I am glad that I finished it. However, I don't care enough about the characters, the world, or the plot to struggle through the sequels.
