The final book in the Felix "Fix" Castor series picks up the story a few weeks after the shocking tragic events in the fourth book,Thicker than Water. Fix had done some magic which went astray, causing his friend Rafi to be be possessed by a demon,Asmodeus. Asmodeus/Rafi had escaped from an asylum and murdered friends of Castor, and he is in despair, guilt ridden and at a loss on how to separate demon and human. Asmodeus has some nasty things in store for mankind. In desperation Fix,who feels unable to overcome the demon, must join forces with others, even including enemies,if the demon is to forced out. Well paced, with many plot lines expertly woven, intriguing characters, and a satisfying, though slightly downbeat ending, this is one of the best in the Felix Castor series. What a pity that after this Mike Carey went off into graphic novels and screenplay writing.I would have loved more of Fix's adventures.
