This was a lovely book, a solid 4 stars. It's a mystery thriller that is a science fiction dystopian about water scarcity and secrets, which studies the relationship between two girls, and is about terrifying governments who systematically oppress. So a lot of things going on. It was also, conversely, a quiet book that plodding along at a calm and unrushed pace, which was enjoyable. The navel-gazing was a bit much in places - in a lot of places - which stopped me loving this, and led to me only liking it. The unravelling of secrets was a lot of fun, and despite the relaxed place, it managed to really hook me and build tension well.
