This is the second book of the African Immortals series. Same as the first book, the sequel is well written, a real page-turner! We learn more about the living blood and its origin. Many more mysteries about the blood brothers are revealed. Some readers have commented that it is possible to start reading from the second book, as the past events are explained quite in detail; they play an important role to the main characters of the story.

Jessica is still haunted by the past, she tries to learn to forgive her husband David. She is also learning how to live with the gift that was given to her and what to do with it. Jessica tries to help people but quickly learns that she cannot save all of them and that not everybody is willing to ask nicely for her help...

Jessica is still suffering from the loss of her first daughter Kira and at the same time she is struggling to raise Fana, a very special child. As the girl is growing older weird and unexplainable things start happening around her. And even worse, in her dreams she meets something dark that seeks their own goals and Fana is not sure she is able to control them.

This is a story of a family and a tragedy, parenting, desperation, religion and human nature. I would say that this book has a better developed story and more complex characters and it is much darker than My Soul to Keep.
