Very well written and the illustratons and sketches just add that much more. Si Morley participates in a secret experimental time-travel project for the US government. Finney effectively brings the reader into late 19th century NY. The book very frequently just feels like a very engrossing story and not genre-related. I forgot I was reading a sci-fi novel many times and just wanted to continue for the sake of the story itself.

A very small pet-peeve is that I wish it had explained the time travel a little bit more from a technical aspect, but it doesn't detract from the story overall.

Love story with Julia done well and Jake Pickering is a remarkable villian. Clever ending and definitely worth anyone's time who loves literature (never mind sci-fi or fantasy, that is a secondary consideration here).
