Again, Stephen King, proves himself THE master at pulse pounding action and mind-rending psychological extremes. When a writer can make your pulse pound and get antsy just by reading some words on paper, then you know that writer has you completely at his mercy. Stephen King has that power.

This is the third installment of King's Magnum Opus, The Dark Tower. And he starts this one off with a bang. Our three adventurers are assaulted by a seventy foot bear, which is in actuality a cyborg, part animal and machine. All of this happens before you are fully comfortable and settled in for a reading session.

Not to be complacent, King turns up the heat further on when the boy Jake, from the first installment (The Gunslinger) makes a repeat appearance. This time Jake makes a death defying transfer from his "half-life" in our New York to the dangerous life in Mid-World, to rejoin Roland and his two recruits, Eddy and Susannah.

But, Mr. King, saves the most bone-chilling and nerve-wracking episode to when our travelers embark into the city of Lud, which is Mid-Worlds equivalent of New York. I started my day with over 150 pages to read and figured I'd be lucky to finish in two days. Not so! I had to finish and I did. That was the most excitement I've had from reading in quite some time. It literally was un-put-downable!

My writerly hat is off to Stephen King!
