The Dark Tower is being attacked on multiple fronts as our ka-tet moves along the path of the beam. Roland and his band of gunslingers have come across a small settlement, Calla Bryn Sturgis, in need of their "special talents" as the town is attacked by "wolves" from the badlands once every generation and steals half of the children. As this story moves along the word coincidences takes on new meaning. This novel seems to be a gathering place for characters from most of Stephen King's writings, especially 'Salem's Lot.

We also learn that the empty lot that holds the single red rose (a symbol of the tower) is up for grabs by the same drug kingpin that Eddie was saved from way back in the 2nd book of the series. There is many trips made through those same standing doors between worlds which was also the main story line of the second book, The Drawing of The Three.

Also in this small town that is awaiting the next attack of the "wolves", we also run across a priest with his own history that involves 'Salem's Lot. The same father that was attacked by the vampire there, is also now living in Calla Bryn Sturgis.

Add to this the mysterious pregnancy of Suzanne, due to her holding the demon at bay back, apparently in the only way that this demon could be held at bay, in The Drawing of The Three, that allowed Jake to make the cross-over between worlds.

All of these tangled webs get added to a few more as this story weaves its way to its breathtaking finale. It is a roller coaster of a ride, but one well worth taking. Stephen King gives you your money's worth in this one. Enjoy.
