I read Battlefield Earth because it was written by the author of Dianetics and the founder of Scientology, not that I have a clue about either of those things. Battlefield Earth is the epitome of pulp. It's almost silly, but its a fun read, for the most part. Our hero, Jonny, an uneducated mountain boy of the nearly extinct human race, battles the alien monsters that have dominated the earth and oppressed humans for a thousand years. While in their captivity, Jonny learns the Psychlo language and masters their technology and ultimately destroys their home world and defeats them on Earth. Then it moves into an intergalactic diplomatic conference and the foreclose of the Psychlos' mortgage of Earth by the Galactic Bank. Why in the world did Hubbard add all that boring crap after the climax of a kind of entertaining albeit dumb action SF story?
