Totally of my wheelhouse, but it works. Enjoyed the Haskel character, loosely based on Margaret Brundage. Combined with the atmospheric pulpesque style turned the trick.
You must hang on for quite awhile, for the fantasy to come. No one will ever accuse this novella of being over fantasized.
