Despite its Lovecraftian monsters, the scariest part of this story is recognizing just how little has changed for BIPOC Americans in the last century in terms of the treatment they receive. This is a grim but rewarding story which explores the themes of inequality, revenge, and recognizing when oneself is on the verge of becoming the monster.
