This is in some ways an enjoyable novella of just under 40,000 words, but whoa, it has not aged well. There's a whole lot of colonialism and casual racism in this story (which it mistakenly thinks it is unpacking) of a "frontier" planet where the natives are "clueless" and are "protected" by their "beneficent" colonizers.

Readers who can get past that will get the usual Willis story of love thwarted by miscommunications and misunderstandings, with a reasonably happy ending.
