Man, this was a hard book to review. Grady Hendrix is a hard author for me. I really like his writing, but I always anticipate that the books are going to be funnier then they are. There is very little humor in this book. All the characters are understandably damaged by their history and are difficult to like.

I did like the nods to the horror movies of the 70's and 80's but after a while it gets to be a bit much. after a while I started getting the feeling about the horror references in this book, the way I feel about Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline 1980's pop culture references.

This was still a goodish book and I do like the idea of finding out what happens when a "Final Girl" is ends up back in the world. And here I think Mr. Hendrix does an admirable job. Drug and alcohol addictions and Obsessive Compulsive disorders are just the tip of the iceberg to these women's problem. I was really struck by our introduction to the "Final Girls Support Group" when it was noted that the women were seated in a shallow horseshoe shape because none of them dared sit with their backs to the door. These simple details added a sense of seriousness to the storyline.
