Hesse's final novel, for which he won a Nobel Prize. While it is a thoughtful, relatively slow-moving story, it carries some fascination with it because of the writing. It doesn't seem very sci-fi though, much more philosophical in laying out the Magister's life and his thought processes in living it. There are three parables at the end that are particularly interesting as well, and it makes you think back to the main story about how they apply to it. A good read if you're not looking for action, but something more thoughtful.
