Very interesting read about how an AI designed for a ship is trying to acclimate and exist inside a humanoid body instead. The other story (told in alternate chapter format) tells of the unfortunate childhood and formative years of Pepper (seen briefly in the previous novel), who escapes a factory and is raised by another AI, "Owl", who is her only family.
Suprisingly heart-warming. It can be read as a stand-alone novel.
