Blood Over Bright Haven

Cried in the first chapter. Unfortunately kind of slumped for me near the end but was still a great read. Devastated by the ending because this would have slapped as a five book series.

**Actually pulling my rating down from a four to a three. Read some reviews that draw attention to the white saviour/noble savage element and I highkey agree that its problematic. Also now that I'm sitting with my thoughts for longer, there were so many loose threads that were left untied and perhaps thats why the end slumped for me. So many plotlines were abandoned in favour of the sacrifice.

While the moralising debate between the two central characters was interesting and did force the reader to think a little harder about our own society, it felt clunky and force fed at times. Still think that a little more time spent with these concepts, these characters, and stretched into a longer series that explored the world outside of the city more would have elevated this work. But that's also often my thoughts with standalone fantasy, I love a thick series.
