The Sworn Soldier spooky mysteries are definitely becoming an easy favourite of mine. They're unsettling and eerie while also being perfect for a hot drink and a rainy day. And this novella reads like a cozy horror mash-up of The Descent meets Someone You Can Build a Nest In.

Major claustrophobia warning with this one. Like in What Feasts at Night, Kingfisher uses a very real fear for most of the horror heavy-lifting while slowly introducing supernatural monsters. The imagery is detailed so prepare to be in a tight spot full of dark corners.
