This is not an easy read. It requires effort and dedication to keep turning the pages, but every image of this world was stunning. The world was beautiful, the characters charming and dangerous, and the story envelops you like a dream.

This is one of those books that needs to be animated. It is colourful and wild, outrageous in its action and lovemaking both. It feels like the motorbike sequence from The Lost Boys but dripping with sapphic gunslinging pirate decadence.

This is a truly unique reading experience and I value it so much for what it is, I don’t know how it would be told any other way, but I did struggle with the style. It was a heavy fever dream of a book and felt dragged down by its prose at times. I think the author experimented with something really beautiful here that sometimes hit the bell straight on the mark and at others swung far too wide.

While I did struggle with some of the exposition, this is one of those stories that will linger in my memory for a long time.
