I found this to be a bit of a slog. The writing is decent, sometimes beautiful, but the plot ended up being boring for me. The demon Vitrine loves her city and nurtures it in her own demonic and capricious ways. Then the angels come and raze the city, (why? we are never given a reason for the destruction - the ways of angels are inscrutable, I guess...?). Vitrine curses one of the angels and somehow condemns him to remain on the world as he is suddenly outcast by the other angels. They then develop a hate/love relationship for the rest of the book while Vitrine rebuilds and repopulates her city, often with the angel's assistance. So, in short, this was (for me) an ultimately average and somewhat dull read that I considered DNF'ing but I persevered to the end. Still not sure I should have. YMMV.
