R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)

I read this book because it was on the "Worlds Without End: classics of science fiction" list.  Given that the play is from 1921, I was fully prepared for a bit of a challenge. Despite some interesting aspects, I found it virtually unreadable.  I had to drag myself through it - and would not have managed to finish it had it been much longer, even though it was only 84 pages.  The introduction (by Ivan Klima) is vastly the most interesting portion of the book.

The aforementioned "classics" list has pushed me toward many books that I had long put off reading.  While older books certainly present their own difficulties, a number of the these volumes were highly readable, including significantly older stories by H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, and even Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The only reason I awarded R. U. R. one star is that there is no option for a half star, or fractional stars, or negative stars.
