Yay! The second WoGF book that I really liked and will get the rest of the series.

The book is about a couple of Deacons. The main character is a female Active called Sorcha who is sent on a mission by her Abbot with a Sensitive: Merrick. It's the story of how they try to save the world from the "unliving of the Otherworld". Don't worry - no zombies here; more like shades and demons.

It's basically a story about the corruption of power and has an obvious arc which will pan out over the next books in the series. Being the first book there is a lot of history and world-building to cover but it's not made through never-ending description, simply through discussions between characters giving it a more natural feel.

Some parts of the writing grate a bit such as Raed being called Pretender on too many occasions. Thanks, I got that at the beginning when he was introduced: it doesn't need to be banged on about every couple of paragraphs. A dip into a thesaurus would be useful for the author too but then everyone has favourite words and phrases, the trick to editing is to recognise it's happening and mix it up a bit more.

The book has some strong characters and while you can see the plotline coming towards you the pace is sufficient for you to want to keep going to see what happens and if the Deacons will save the day or not.
