Shanghai Sparrow

Eveline Duchen, orphan and street rat is caught by a mysterious servant of the Empire one day when she's in the middle of hoodwinking a priest. She's faced with a choice: jail, or join a private school that trains spies for the Empire, where she'll be taken care of pretty much for the rest of her life, in exchange for doing the Empire's bidding. For a girl that's grown up on the street and has had to do any and every thing she could to survive, it literally is a dream.
