I feel like I've been picking on Pohl for his Gothic psychological writing in the 70s, but this book has a lot of similar issues to Gateway. The main character undergoes a series of tribulations and we hear his emotional contortions. a couple of the minor characters hold together but the main character never really changes, he just varies in his self absorption. Pohl could have used some of the technological elements to highlight the main character's self-deception, but instead leaves everything happy at the end. gender roles are also painfully dated. I would avoid it unless you are a obsessive completionist of lists. (like me!)
