Random quote: My pass had disappeared. Not that I believed for a moment that this was an accident; in fact, I had suspected for some time now that the Cosmic Command, obviously no longer able to supervise every assignment on an individual basis when there were literally trillions of matters in its charge, had switched over to a random system. The assumption would be that every document, circulating endlessly from desk to desk, must eventually hit upon the right one. A time-consuming procedure, perhaps, but one that would never fail. The Universe itself operated on the same principle. And for an institution as everlasting as the Universe certainly our Building was such an institution the speed at which these meanderings and perturbations took place was of no consequence. - Stanislaw Lem (Memoirs Found in a Bathtub)

Given the subpar to horrendous slate of Hugo nominees this year, I thought it would be nice to point out that everyone can vote for the Locus awards - I hope that lots of people will vote and that quality works will win out!

Some facts on the Locus award:
  • You can vote here:  http://www.locusmag.com/Magazine/2015/PollAndSurvey.html
  • Voting is open to everyone (but subscriber votes count double)
  • The voting deadline is April 15 (tax day in the USA)
  • The knowledgeable staff there has assembled a shortlist of recommendations, but you can write in any eligible nominee you like
  • Staff manually reviews the votes and throws out block voting (Yeah - no Sad Puppy slate here)

Just saw this. Since the deadline is tomorrow, I thought I'd bump this up.
Thanks, Engelbrecht.

The nominees have been announced.  All in all, they're a very nice populist list, and a great anodyne to the Hugo mess.

I'll get those posted this evening. It does look like a good batch.
