Random quote: The most dangerous condition for a man or a nation is when his intellectual side is more developed than his spiritual. Is that not exactly the condition of the world today? - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (The Land of Mist)

it seems that there is a lot of good SF/F to look forward to in the near future at the movies!  i've been seeing lots of news reports of what's coming that has me really excited and a bit apprehensive...

Fangland by John Marks

...excited by the possibilities and apprehensive that they'll screw up some really great books.  i'm sure there are more out there too.  i wonder how many of these are really going to come to pass?  we've been hearing about Ender's Game forever!

have you heard of any other great SF/F books being made into movies or series?

I also am a bit apprehensive when they go to make a movie out a favorite book. I'm not a purest, I liked both the Dune movie and the SciFi mini-series. Both of those were very controversial with fans. As long as they capture essence and it is interesting I am good.

I find I am often more upset when they take book and squeeze everything out and produce an action adventure.

I particularly was upset with Starship Trooper. I thought the book had a lot to offer regarding society and citizenship. The movie was 99% action with a variety of random additions for an extra 11% action credit. Here is hoping that Hyperion is not devoid of the stories. It might just be too tempting to only focus on the shrike.

What are some of the worst examples you can think of?
