Hugo and Nebula Award nominated novella. It originally appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, April 2002 and has been reprinted in Lightspeed, April 2012. The story can also be found in the anthologies The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twentieth Annual Collection (2003), edited by Gardner Dozois and War & Space: Recent Combat (2012), edited by Rich Horton and Sean Wallace. It is included in the collection Wild Things (2005).
