2017 Slipstream Reading Challenge
Slipstream. Sui generis. Interstitial. Genre bender.
Maybe it's a mainstream novel with genre elements. Or maybe the plot covers several genres or doesn't fit neatly into any standard book categories. Or maybe the storyline is "visionary, unreliable, odd or metaphysical," as Christopher Priest described it.
Whatever you call it or however you define it, that's what this challenge is about!
For some books ideas...
- check out titles tagged "slipstream" on this site
- explore the awards; the Clarke, Campbell, Red Tentacle, and Golden Tentacle nominees are sometimes literary, which is one possible definition of slipstream
- read the genre bender articles on tor.com
- search the lists of books nominated for literary prizes (like the Man Booker) to find ones that have a genre plot
