The Wedding Album: Love is Just Science Fiction

Cathy

David Marusek

Sturgeon Award winning and Nebula Award nominated novella.

Love is only science fiction.

With wedding photos and videos and mementos of all kinds, newlyweds attempt to hold on to their special day and to cherish it forever. Someday technology may enable us to record not only our appearance and voices but everything we know, feel, fear, and love at the moment the shutter clicks. Then our wedding mementos, like Anne and Ben's in this story, take on a life of their own in a world where love may be eternal, but the world is not. Till deletion do us part...

The story originally appeared in Asimov's Science Fiction, June 1999. It can also be found in the Gardner Dozois anthologies The Year's Best Science Fiction: Seventeenth Annual Collection (2000), Supermen (2002) and Best of the Best: 20 Years of the Year's Best Science Fiction (2005), as well as the anthologies Nebula Awards Showcase 2001, edited by Robert Silverberg and Rewired: The Post-Cyberpunk Anthology (2007), edited by James Patrick Kelly and John Kessel. It is included in the collection Getting to Know You (2007).
