Biography

Kristine Kathryn Rusch writes under various pseudonyms in numerous genres, including science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and romance. Her short work has been reprinted in eighteen Year's Best collections. Her novels have made the bestseller lists worldwide, and have been published in 14 countries and 13 different languages.

Rusch won the Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 1990. Her long and short fiction has won more than 25 awards, including the Hugo, Sidewise (alternate history), UPC (Spanish SF), two Endeavour (Pacific Northwest), numerous Analog, Asimov's, and Locus Reader's Choice Awards, and garnered five Nebula nominations.

She edited The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction from mid-1991 through mid-1997, winning a Hugo Award as Best Professional Editor. She is the only person in the history of the science fiction field to have won a Hugo award for editing and a Hugo award for fiction.

She has published a blog on writing since 2008 and has created a series of articles entitled The Business Rusch to assist authors in navigating and surviving the publishing world.

Rusch and her husband Dean Wesley Smith operated Pulphouse Publishing for many years and edited the original (hardback) incarnation of Pulphouse Magazine, for which they won a World Fantasy Award in 1989. Together they currently provide Coast Workshops for experienced writers, and edit the Fiction River anthology series for WMG Publishing.

She lives and works on the Oregon Coast.
