Biography

Born in Oklahoma City, Joe Haldeman traveled widely as a child. He received a BS in Astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1967. He served in Vietnam in the late sixties, an experience which influenced much of his writing.

His best known work, The Forever War for which he received the Hugo and Nebula award and Forever Peace are largely inspired by his war experience. He also wrote books inspired by the Star Trek series. He has won three Hugos, two Nebulas and a Campbell award in the novel category and is currently an adjunct professor teaching writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has also served twice as president of the Science Fiction Writers of America.
