Admin Posts: 4130 ![]() Location: Dallas, Texas | finminer - 2026-01-03 11:50 AM We greatly appreciate your efforts - family comes first though! Really wish I could help with the simpler stuff. In the meantime...some friends & I have decided to read all the Hugo & Nebula nominated short stories for the 1960's. They all appear to be in WWE, so I've created a challenge to facilitate easy tracking. It will need some sort of banner, but no hurry. If this is successful, I may follow on to this challenge in future years. Is there a way to lock what books apply to a certain challenge? Just wondering, as this new one has specific entries. Thank you for all you do! Great idea for a challenge! The only built in restrictions are the genres you pick and the number of reads for each level. If you mark it as SF only readers won't be able to add fantasy or horror books to their list. Sounds like an upgrade might be in order. We could easily add some checkbox selections for book types. We'll keep that in mind for future upgrades, thanks!

Admin Posts: 4130 ![]() Location: Dallas, Texas | Hello again everyone. I have managed to get caught up on the switch over from 2025 to 2026 with the new logo and images. I may have missed a 2025 image here or there so if you see one please let me know. Next for me is to re-up the challenges I host every year: WoGF, Number of the Counting, Tor.com Short Fiction. Should get to those tomorrow -ish. Also, if anyone wants to pick up the challenges that the late, great Charlesdee hosted please feel free. Those are: In Translation, The WABAC Machine and The Weirdness -- all were last seen in 2023 before he got really sick. They were pretty popular as I remember.

Admin Posts: 4130 ![]() Location: Dallas, Texas | OK, I have finally caught up on the 2026 RYO banners! If you got a banner that you don't like just let me know and I can try something different. Thanks all for your patience and for jumping back in with a new crop of challenges for the new year. I love seeing challenges coming back year after year to give that sense of tradition along with some old ones coming back after a few years hiatus to be renewed again. An of course, what would a new year be without new challenges? You folks always deliver the goods for our community and we thank you for your wonderful participation!

Regular Posts: 90 ![]() | I have to say, Dave, that you?ve outdone yourself on the Doorstop & Hugo Short Story logos. I laughed out loud at the Doorstop because that?s just how I feel. Thank you again! If no one?s picked it up, I?ll restart The Weirdness challenge as the host. I don?t think we had it last year but I liked that one.

Admin Posts: 4130 ![]() Location: Dallas, Texas | The Weirdness banner is back up. Thanks for re-starting the challenge. It's nice to see Dee's old challenges back in the mix. Also, thanks everyone for the kind words about the banners. They are fun to make but they can be real head-scratchers to figure out how to represent the themes. The Doorstop idea had me stuck on a literal book holding open a door concept but I could not pull it off to my satisfaction. Then I read the description and immediately thought of that photograph-- "library full of massive tomes" indeed!
