History

Dating back to 1909, Science Fiction publishing pioneer Hugo Gernsback had been publishing sci fi in pulp magazines to an eager, budding sci fi audience. In 1926, he launched "Amazing Stories," the first Science Fiction magazine in the U.S. (perhaps the world). The stories he printed therein were termed "scientific romance." Amazing Stories initially had to rely on reprints of writers from an earlier generation (such as H.G. Wells, and Edgar Allan Poe) because there was a shortage of writers in the genre. Throughout the coming decades there were few major Sci Fi authors who did not grace its pages. Amazing Stories ceased publication in 2006.
